Dr. Cox has a forthcoming book from the University of California Press!
Overcoming Bias Habits - An Evidence-Based Guide to Creating a Joyfully Inclusive World
The book is now available for preorder at Amazon or Barnes & Noble!
For every chapter of Overcoming Bias Habits, there will be at least one podcast episode and video exploring that chapter’s topics. You can find the podcast, Diverse Joy®, in any podcasting app or watch the fully-produced video version on YouTube; this site will link to both.
Introducing Our Journey: Bias Habits and Diverse Joy
This introductory chapter of Dr. Cox’s book will include the following sections:
A Bit About Me
Some Instructions and Guidance
Features of Bias Habit-Breaking Skills
The “A Bit About Me” section will include background information about Dr. William Taylor Laimaka Cox; and “Some Instructions and Guidance” isn’t “instructions” but a way to understand what you’ll be reading.
Also, when other readers start sharing their own examples of how they’ve used the book’s content through our submission page, we will share those anonymized examples on the pages for the corresponding chapters.
Season 3 of the Diverse Joy podcast, which releases October 2025-November 2026 was designed to match the chapters of the book. Season 3, Episode 1 corresponds to this intro chapter and chapter 1.
Also, the first episode of every season covers an aspect of why joy is important to diversity and bias reduction efforts, which makes for great supplemental listening, related to the topic of “creating a joyfully inclusive world.”
Episodes of Diverse Joy relevant to the introduction of Overcoming Bias Habits include:
“Joy as Resistance and Bias Reduction” (Season 3, Episode 1)
“Centering Joy, and Why Non-Scientific Diversity Trainings Fail” (Season 1, Episode 1)
“Why Joy is Important for Diversity Work” (Season 2, Episode 1)
